This group of volunteers spotted a large chunk of metal in the Afon Lwyd on the stretch by Cwmbran Boating Lake.

Richard Davies, one of the volunteers, said he first saw it “years ago.” He put out an appeal and rounded up a group of people who decided to work together and drag it out of the river.

Several of the volunteers were from the Eco-Warriors of Bran– a group that meet up every Sunday and target an area of the town and carry out a litter pick.

They met up last Saturday at 8.30am. Several of them were wearing wellies ready to get into the river. Davies Timber loaned a van so they could take the metal to a local scrap yard. It took less than 20 minutes to get it out of the river, up the steep bank and onto the back of the van.
