darren graceland jones on stage as Elvis tribute
Darren 'Graceland' Jones at Crow Fest

“Good afternoon Cwmbran, how are you doing? Any Elvis fans out there? Thank you both for coming.”

Darren ‘Graceland’ Jones is a local Cwmbran favourite and had the Crow Fest crowd on his side before he strutted onto stage in white jumpsuit carrying a guitar.

His third song up was ‘In The Ghetto’. Let’s not forget the fabulous tie-up with Torfaen Council in 2013 that went viral and took Darren into the national media across the world. I’m sure he slipped in a few ‘depots’ in during the song 😉

He said: “We’re not impersonators. You can’t impersonate something as great as Elvis Presley.

“I want his music to carry on with the youngsters who are here and Elvis will live on for another 100 years.”

Before his final song he thanked Cwmbran Community Council for putting on this event, SW20 radio and Green Room for the sound and staging, and all the volunteers and backstage staff.

He finished with a performance of the “only song Elvis sang in Welsh”. We scratched our heads for a few seconds before he reminded us it was The Wonder of Ewe…

Thank you Darren.
