“This is rock n roll Cwmbran! If you don’t go mental, I’m going to have to roll with it.”
“At the end of this one I’m gonna feel Supersonic!”
Degs Williamson, lead singer of The Oasis Experience, gave us clues before many of the songs that they performed. They were so easy, even I, who is self-described as tone deaf, knew what was coming next.
With Cardiff having the honour of being the opening venue of the Gallagher brothers’ reunion tour, it was nice to get Degs’ band here in Cwmbran.
There were a dozen or so Oasis t-shirts and hats in the crowd – all freshly bought from the streets of Cardiff.
He made one young fan’s night. Jake was on the railing at the front and when Degs learned his name, he shouted: “Jake! This one is for you. Today is gonna be the day…”
I watched Jake open up his phone to video the band and crowd singing Wonderwall. Lovely.
At one point, he told ‘Lola’ in the crowd to never smoke as “it’s a disgusting habit”. Did Liam and Noel ever give vital public health messages like this to fans? I hope he did.
And yes, this was the lead-in to “Cigarettes & Alcohol.”
