“Big Up The Henllys Massive. We’ve got the Thornhill Crew.”
Jon Lilygreen told us he had “drunk a lot of pints in Cwmbran” and would be joining the long queue at the bar after The Brotherhood’s set.
Matt Savage from band told me last month: “We’re fun, upbeat and lively, just the sort of thing for a party on a Saturday afternoon in July.”
And yes, they delivered at Crowfest last Saturday. Susie Webb, compere and from SW20 Radio’ told us they needed us up on our feet.
We cheered the news that Toby the drummer had become a dad two days ago. We cheered when Lilygreen was introduced to us with the reminder that he once performed in front of millions of TV viewers singing Cyprus’ song at the 2010 Eurovision Song Contest.
Their set was a crazy mix where you didn’t know what one song would turn into after the previous. The mix of male and female vocal leads was fabulous. They were awesome.
During their set, a woman I recently interviewed for a Cwmbran Life story was chatting to me.
Fantastic for a party
She said The Brotherhood would be fantastic for a party at her organisation so I said I’d pass on their number.
Within one minute we had the mix of ‘Jump Around’ into ‘Play That Funky Music’ into ‘Superstition’. We didn’t where they’d take us next with their 40 minutes of soul, funk and rock.
I loved their audience involvement. A young girl wearing a Guns N’ Roses t-shirt was praised for “being on the right track”. She’s got in here early ready for Guns2Roses at 7.35pm.
Jon said goodbye with: ”You’ve been lush Cwmbran” and the feeling was mutual.
