A 14-year-old Cwmbran boy sold his old BMX to invest in a garden strimmer and start a grass cutting business. Jack Taylor, 14, wants to save money for a new bike.

Daniel Taylor, his dad, said he’s done jobs for their neighbours and homes in the local area, adding: “Jack has always been hands-on. He likes being busy and likes to make progress and see improvements in all he does. He’s got a great work ethic and similar to his sport, he won’t give up.

“Me or his mum will take him to his jobs and allow him to start the jobs off, first introducing himself and cutting the grass. We just pop by to make sure he’s okay and he’s cleaned up.”

The Cwmbran High School pupil plays rugby and cricket for Croesyceiliog, and enjoys fishing, golf, darts and pool.

‘Really proud of Jack’

Daniel said: “Jack will fit jobs in straight from school before training and get up early on the weekends to ensure he’s on time for matches.

“He was up and out the door by 6am on Saturday to get to a fence painting job to make sure he was finished and at cricket for 12.30pm. He didn’t stop for a break to make sure that he was able to get to cricket on time.

“We are really proud of Jack. Everyone he meets cannot speak highly enough of him.

“He’s got good manners, good morals and he’s turning into a fine young man.”
