A COUNCILLOR has been thanked for ten years’ service chairing a key committee.
Councillor Stuart Ashley, who represents Cwmbran’s Pontnewydd ward, was recognised at Torfaen Borough Council’s annual general meeting held at the Civic Centre in Pontypool.
The Labour member had chaired the council’s economy and environment overview and scrutiny committee but has stepped down at the start of the new municipal year.
Cllr Rose Seabourne, who was re-elected as Torfaen council’s presiding member at the annual meeting, invited councillors to the presentation.
She said: “I would like to congratulate Cllr Stuart Ashley on ten years as a scrutiny committee chair and is stepping down this year. We have a cake for him in the members’ room.”
Cllr Ashley has also been the deputy presiding member. At the meeting, councillors elected Llanyrafon Labour member David Williams to the post.
He wasn’t in the chamber to accept the position having sent his apologies for absence from the meeting.
