Members of Blaenavon Male Voice Choir swapped their tuxedos for trainers and cycled, canoed and walked around 50 miles yesterday to raise money for two special charities close to their hearts.

Sarah Mayers, from Trevethin, passed away last November, aged 53, after being diagnosed with synovial sarcoma cancer in 2024.

Her husband Ady Mayers, a member of the choir, took part in the challenge alongside fellow choristers to support the Synovial Sarcoma Fund and Prostate Cymru.

The group cycled from Blaenavon to Talybont and back. Then they canoed along the Monmouthshire and Brecon Canal from Bridge 95 at Llanellen to Goytre Wharf. Their final leg was a walk to Usk.

Ady told Cwmbran Life: “Sarah loved the choir. They’ve been a huge support, and kept me going after she passed.”

Sarah told Cwmbran Life last summer that one of the things on her “bucket list” was to “save someone else” through her cancer story. Ady said he’s determined to keep her memory alive through raising awareness of sarcoma cancer through events like this.
