A brand new jazz and blues community orchestra is launching in Torfaen this week, offering local people the chance to make music together and boost their wellbeing.
The Panteg House Community Orchestra is a free weekly session open to musicians of all abilities.
The project is being led by specialist musicians and educators Susie and Craig Webb, who hope the orchestra will become a welcoming space for adults to connect through music.
Susie said: “We aim for it to bring people together in music, helping to reduce social isolation and building a sense of well‑being.”
Players are asked to bring their own instruments and arrive at 6.45pm for a 7pm start on Wednesday 15 April.
The organisers say group music‑making can reduce stress, combat loneliness, build confidence and create a strong sense of belonging. The orchestra is particularly keen to reach adults who may be feeling isolated and would benefit from a friendly, creative weekly activity.
A unique part of the project is its partnership with Singergise Radio, which will broadcast some of the sessions as part of the DJ4aDay CIC programming. This will include live performances and interviews with participants, giving members a platform to share their experiences.
