Milo, a whippet from Cwmbran is joining the Great Global Greyhound Walk

Torfaen is set to join a worldwide celebration of sighthounds this weekend with dog owners taking part in the borough’s first-ever Great Global Greyhound Walk.

The event, part of an international initiative to raise awareness and appreciation for greyhounds and other sighthound breeds, will welcome dogs and their human companions for a relaxed group walk. All types of sighthounds, from whippets and salukis to lurchers and galgos, are invited to take part, along with any other friendly four-legged friends.

Dogs and their owners will set off from the Olive Tree Club at 9am on Sunday 28 September 2025.

The walk will be on-lead, in line with local guidelines for the playing fields, and participants will be responsible for their own dogs. The route follows the river toward Southfields, with options to shorten or extend the walk depending on ability and preference.

A group photo will be taken at the start for those happy to be included, and the official number of sighthounds will be submitted to the Great Global Greyhound Walk organisers after the event.
