Staff and volunteers are ready to kick off this summer’s playschemes in Torfaen.

Over 80 staff and 160 volunteers spent this week taking part in training sessions to ensure they are fully equipped with the necessary skills to support children and young people across Torfaen.

The training consisted of 45 different modules containing topics such as; first aid, child protection, epilepsy awareness, disability awareness, manual handling, amongst many others.

In Torfaen, 160 children with disabilities will also be supported at the play sessions.

The volunteers not only support throughout the summer but they also offer their time throughout the year to support children to have play opportunities at after school sessions and during weekends.

Julian Davenne, play service manager, said: “Without the support of all the volunteers, none of this would be possible. We are so proud of them all and the fact that they come back year after year to give up their time. I would like to say a big thank you to all the volunteers that are taking part in play schemes this year.”
