The three Torfaen Dolphins and their coach, who have been in Glasgow representing Team Wales at the Commonwealth Games, arrived back home this evening.
Theodora Taylor, Meghan Willis and Dylan Brown are all members of the swimming club who train in Pontypool. Tom Croke, their club coach, was selected to be on the national coaching team and accompanied them to the prestigious competition.
Taylor returned with a bronze medal, Willis made it through the heats to swim in two finals and swam a season’s best time, and Brown finished his final in third but was disqualified.
Tom Croke, coach with Torfaen Dolphins and Team Wales, told Cwmbran Life: “We wanted to compete against the best athletes in the world on the biggest stage, and we did that in Glasgow. The facility was superb, the atmosphere was electric and loud.
“Our planning was on point. The pre-games camp in Stirling was terrific and allowed the team to perform to their best when needed. A six-day meet takes its toll, but that’s the same for everyone. Managing this was supported by our team of brilliant sport scientists and allowed the athletes to stay on their game.
“Our Torfaen Dolphins have been amazing. They really have been superb and will hopefully inspire the next generation of Dolphins to make the team in four years’ time.”
