A stretch of footpath leading to Cwmbran Stadium has been fitted with new solar‑powered lights – the first of their kind to be used anywhere in Torfaen.

The lights have been installed along the route between Oakfield Road and Henllys Way, with Torfaen Council reporting positive feedback from both walkers and local residents.

A spokesperson said the upgraded section is around 415 metres long and now includes 143 solar lights.

“Solar lighting was chosen as an effective, low‑energy solution to improve comfort, visibility and the overall sense of safety for people walking and cycling along the route,” they said.

“This work forms part of Torfaen’s wider improvements to walking and cycling access to Cwmbran Stadium, as well as enhancements to the main active travel routes that pass the Stadium.”
