The Environmental Volunteer Award was given to Rosa Newton at Cwmbran Community Council’s recent Community Awards evening.

It was held at the Parkway Hotel on Friday 6 March. This was read out to guests as she collected the award.

“Many of you know Rosa as the dedicated leader of the Eco Warriors of Bran, Cwmbran’s litter-picking champions. But Rosa is much more than a leader she is a friend, a source of support, and a driving force for positive change.

“A former PCSO, Rosa focuses on education and prevention to inspire better choices, a belief that shapes all she does. Three years ago, she became Chair of the Eco Warriors, growing the group, strengthening its foundations, and creating a safe, inclusive space that welcomes vulnerable adults.

“Through litter picking and community projects like clothes swaps and Christmas gift initiatives, Rosa has helped people build confidence, friendships, and a sense of belonging, while promoting sustainability and reuse. She even adds small touches like refreshments to make everyone feel welcome.

“Rosa’s vision continues to grow, with plans for a community hub where people can repair, upcycle, and gather socially. Her dedication, kindness, and determination show that environmental action is not just about protecting places it’s about uplifting people.

“Please join me in celebrating Rosa Newton, this year’s Environmental Award winner.”
