Joe Tresidder is the Plaid Cymru candidate in this Thursday’s by-election for a Torfaen County Borough Council seat in the Llantarnam Ward of Cwmbran.

Cwmbran Life offered candidates the chance to write a piece about why residents should vote for them.

Joe wrote: “I’m proud to be running to be your local councillor for Llantarnam, Oakfield, Southville and Croes-y-Mwyalch because I love our area and I wish to be a strong, principled voice for residents, standing up for you on Torfaen Council.

“As a local volunteer at the British Heart Foundation in Cwmbran and as a volunteer Cub and Scout leader, I know this area well and I understand many of the problems that residents face.

“I’m not a career politician: I’m running for the first time to provide fresh energy and new ideas on Torfaen Council. Our area deserves strong local representation, and I will work hard all year round (not just at election time) to meet residents and listen to their concerns, including holding regular surgeries.

“I work as a Student Support Team Manager, helping vulnerable young people to find a way
forward. If elected as your local councillor, I would represent all residents, taking their
concerns seriously.

“If elected, I would focus on tackling these important local issues:

  • Campaign to renovate the Cwmbran Stadium grandstand.
  • Fight for improved youth club provision in our area to give young people safe spaces
off the streets to learn new skills.
  • Support more local businesses to be located in Cwmbran town centre and fight for
better support from Torfaen Council for our high street small businesses.
  • Support measures to reduce poverty in our area.
  • Help maintain our green spaces such as Cwmbran Boating Lake and Oakfield Flower
Gardens, working closely with local volunteer groups and Torfaen Council, so that our
children have safe places to play and nature can thrive.

“I’ve spent a lot of time speaking to residents recently and the response has been incredibly positive. May’s Senedd election results in our constituency of Sir Fynwy Torfaen, where Plaid Cymru came second to Reform (with Labour in 4th place), show that I’m the best placed candidate to beat Reform in Llantarnam. I can win here to be a strong voice for our area, holding Torfaen Council’s Labour leadership to account, but I can only win with your kind support.

“Thank you / Diolch.”
