A former Fairwater Comprehensive School pupil who began his career in the mail room at Gwent County Council is one of the speakers at the next Curious Community event in Cwmbran.

Paul Matthews, now Chief Executive of Monmouthshire County Council, will join a panel of leaders exploring why workplace culture has become one of the biggest factors in attracting talent, building trust and helping organisations adapt to constant change.

The event – Get Curious About Culture – takes place on Tuesday 19 May at 5pm at the Parkway Hotel.

Paul has spent decades in public service after starting out in the post room at County Hall.

He’s known for speaking openly about leadership, trust and the role culture plays in shaping how public services work.

He’ll be joined by:

  • Hannah Worthing, Head of People & Culture at Flotek Group, offering insight from a fast‑growing Welsh tech business
  • Gareth Way, Chief HR Officer at Creditsafe Group, who oversees global people strategy across 14 countries

The organisers of Curious Community says culture is often misunderstood as a “soft, fluffy, nice-to-have” HR topic, when in reality it shapes behaviour, performance, innovation and belonging – and can make or break an organisation.

The event is free to attend and open to anyone interested in how organisations can work better.
