Cwmbran’s Meritor factory, previously Lucas Girling, is opening its doors to the public for an event to mark 70 years at the site.

Lucas Girling produced gun turrets for RAF planes during World War Two. Today the site is the third largest commercial brake manufacturer in Europe and exports its products across the world.

Visitors can walk around the site from 10am to 2pm on Saturday 10 August 2019. Staff will put on refreshments and there will be activities including crazy golf and face painting.

Gwynfor Gardiner, site manager, said: “The open day is a great opportunity to come and see exactly what we do here at Meritor. We have been manufacturing at this site for 70 years and this year marks 20 years as Meritor. Through that period the site has seen a great deal of change, increased automation and use of robotics.

“Visitors will be able to see all of this as they are invited to walk around our factory, test lab, engineering department and office space. In addition we will have food and drinks and lots of fun children’s activities!”

Where is Meritor in Cwmbran?

Meritor Cwmbran is on Grange Road. The factory is alongside Cwmbran Morrisons. This is a link to its location on Google Maps.
