A new one-stop-shop for anyone looking for employment or to improve their skills has opened in Cwmbran Centre.

Employment support officers at the new council-run Torfaen Works shop are on hand to provide a tailored package of support to anyone living in and around Torfaen, whether they are unemployed or in employment.

Some of the things they will be able to support with, include:

  • Practical help with CV writing, interview practice and job searching.
  • Information about the local jobs market and job matching.
  • Financial assistance to meet training costs
  • Key skills training including maths, English and digital skills
  • Impartial information, advice and guidance to help shape your career and skills plan.

The Torfaen Works shop has been funded through the UK Government Shared Prosperity Fund and is the successor to Torfaen Council’s CELT employment and skills advice pod, which was based in Cwmbran Library.

It’s open every Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday from 10am until 4pm, and Thursdays from 11am to 6pm.

For people already employed, they will be able to access support to help them sustain or progress in their jobs, through acquiring new qualifications and skills.

A food bank, run in partnership with Eastern Valley Food Bank,  operates from the shop and is open to everyone.

Cllr Joanne Gauden, Torfaen Council’s excutive member for economy, skills and regeneration, said: “The employment and skills advice pod at Cwmbran Library was a great way of bringing lots of different help and advice in one location. We hope Torfaen Works will continue to make it easier for our residents to realise their ambitions.

“Torfaen Works is a Council-wide approach to employment support so that all our services are streamlined and are simple for our residents, and partners to understand and refer.

“As well as information about jobs, careers and skills, the team will also be able to provide financial and wellbeing support so people feel confident when applying for work.”

Torfaen Works comprises of the UK Government funded Shared Prosperity Projects CELT plus and Multiply, as well as Welsh Government funded programme Communities For Work Plus.
