Celebrity Traitors or live comedy. Celebrity Traitors or live comedy. Decision, decisions. Sorry Claudia Winkleman. But The Blinkin’ Owl ‘s newish monthly comedy night won last Thursday.
Back in 1996, I surprised a woman with tickets to see Lee Evans on our first date. It worked and we’ve been married 21 years. We love live comedy. Evans started on pub and club gigs to tough crowds before his sell-out that year in a London theatre.
It’s where the top comedians start off so getting to see so many new and experienced acts in two and a half hours was a treat.
The bill at the Coed Eva pub was superb. Tickets were just £2 and then you could make a donation in a bucket or via QR code.
There were seven support acts. SEVEN! And two of them were local lads, Darius Phipps from Cwmbran, and Owain Graham from Pontypool. Apologies if others were performing to a hometown crowd- the new set after new set was so fast-paced I missed names and areas.
Welsh Jesus was the headline. I saw him earlier this year perform in the White Hut when he was a support act. I’ll be nodding off to sleep tonight humming ‘Turkey Teeth’ and ‘Granny Love’.
Road Test Comedy put last Thursday’s bill , their third so far, and will be back again in the same venue on Thursday 26 November. Tickets here.
