Jane Horne was given the Volunteer of the Year award at Cwmbran Community Council’s Community Awards evening.
This was read out to the guests as Jane collected her award at the Parkway Hotel held on Friday 6 March 2026.
“Jane is an extraordinary individual whose dedication has made a lasting impact on our community through her work with The Salvation Army Cwmbran in South Wales. A huge asset to the area, she organises and runs vital services while also being a carer herself, inspiring everyone who knows her.
‘For many years, Jane has led the community café and warm space, creating a welcoming fortnightly session offering refreshments, companionship, gentle chair exercises, and support for those who need it most. These gatherings provide a safe and inclusive place where people can connect, feel valued, and find encouragement during challenging times.
“Jane’s commitment extends even further. She plays in the Salvation Army band, supporting numerous community events and playing a significant role in Remembrance Sunday parades, helping to honour and bring the community together on important occasions.
“She also organises Christmas lunches for those who would otherwise spend the day alone, bringing comfort, dignity, and joy at what can be a difficult time of year.
“Jane’s compassion, humility, and selfless service embody the very best of volunteering. She has made a profound difference in the lives of many and is an exceptionally deserving nominee for Volunteer of the Year.”
