Henllys Park in Cwmbran

Henllys Village Fete, due to take place this Saturday (11 July) in Henllys Park, has been cancelled because of the forecasted hot weather.

The dog show had already been called off last week, but organisers confirmed yesterday that the entire event will now not go ahead.

In a post shared on Facebook, Henllys Community Council said:”This is not a decision we have taken lightly, but with temperatures forecast to exceed 30°C on Saturday, we have to put the safety and wellbeing of everyone involved first – our volunteers, stallholders, exhibitors and, of course, our visitors.”

The company providing the bouncy castle had already advised that their equipment cannot operate safely in high temperatures. Last year’s fete also saw stallholders pull out and lower visitor numbers as people chose to stay away during the hot weather.

The Facebook post added: “We know many of you were looking forward to the day, and we share your disappointment. A huge thank you to everyone who has worked so hard behind the scenes, as well as to our stallholders, performers, and supporters for their understanding. We really do appreciate all the time, effort and enthusiasm that has gone into planning this year’s event.”
