Cwmbran Shopping centre is to host an event to celebrate its environmental performance.

The annual Cwmbran Shopping Centre sustainability event will be held on Friday 26 July to showcase commitments made towards environmental best practice and sustainability by the centre, local businesses and charitable organisations.

Organisations taking part include New Town Motors, who will be bringing a selection of electrical vehicles, Torfaen Council, Travel Line Cymru and Oh Soap.

Between 10am and 4pm, visitors will be able to watch solar lighting demonstrations in the bandstand, view electric cars and purchase sustainable arts and crafts, including handmade soaps. Children can have their face painted for free and take part in a colouring-in competition, where the best picture will be awarded a prize.

As part of the event, charity CoStar will be providing soups to raise money for their community development efforts.

People who take part in the travel survey will be put into a free prize draw to win a mountain bike.

The event, which has taken place every year since 2010, is part of the Cwmbran Shopping’s long-term commitment to reduce waste and energy usage. In recognition of its efforts, the centre has recently been awarded an International Green Apple Green Hero’s award for environmental best practice.

Paul Rich, Centre Manager at Cwmbran Shopping, said: “I am proud to host an event which demonstrates great environmental practice across a range of local businesses and charities.

“As a centre that represents a multitude of companies, we feel it is incredibly important to implement sustainability across the board and showcase our commitment to the environment.

“We have had a fantastic turn out over the years- it is a great day out for families and I hope to see many visitors on the day.”
