Former Cwmbran resident was in the playground at Rhws Primary School when the car overturned injuring nine

A woman who grew up in Cwmbran was in the playground of Rhws Primary School school today when a car overturned and injured five children and four adults on the road outside.

Angela Mansi, aged 35, left the town 20 years ago and was a pupil at Fairwater Comprehensive School. She was dropping her youngest son off at the school in Rhoose.

Angela said: “I stepped in the playground. There was a huge bang, never heard anything like it, the car flipped in the air and hit the kids and adults.”

BBC TV interviewed Angela live on television.

“I was taking my son to school. Me and another mum tried to grab as many kids and guide them into the building as it was like a war zone. I have been in a zone all day, no motivation at all.

“Karin was my friend as well as the school’s long running lollipop lady. My son’s friends are in hospital.

“The school dealt with it so well. We live in a small community where everyone knows everyone.  A little village where things like this never happen.”
