Organisers of a 12-hour walking football tournament in Cwmbran say they’ve beaten their fundraising target of £1,000 and hope to pass £2,000 by the time all the donations are counted.

Lee Morgan, Cwmbran Celtic’s over 50s walking team manager and committee member, said he spotted an advert on social media for Prostate Cancer UK and thought it “fitted” well with the club.

He said: “We’ve got all sorts of ages, all sorts of people with different illnesses and it just fitted perfectly for the club. I put a vote to the exec committee and they were fully behind it.”

Clubs from as far afield as Crickhowell and Port Talbot travelled to the 3G pitch in Llantarnam to take part on Sunday 14 June 2026.

Lee described the atmosphere as “superb.”

“I played football for years and years and walking football is an absolutely tremendous game,” he added.

“I can highly recommend it. Ask any player around here, they love it. The first game they play, they are hooked.”

Matches were played continuously until 9pm in the evening.
