A Cwmbran man who has multiple sclerosis is fundraising for a new wheelchair that he says will be a “gamechanger” in how he lives his life.

Mike Gale lives in Llantarnam, and told Cwmbran Life: “I need to get out and about like I used to. I’ve always been an outdoor guy.

“My daughter’s always on about missing her dad being out. She said, “I want my dad back’. It pulled on my heartstrings.”

The 49-year-old found out he had MS in 2019. It’s a chronic disease that affects the brain and spinal cord.

He recently tested a Trekinetic GTE chair in the area where he lives.

During the trial, he found he could go along grass and gravel, and up and down kerbs.

He was told the chair could go on sand.

The married dad-of-three was able to use it to go up one of the steps on the railway bridge from the Grayson Way estate to Cwmbran Boating Lake.

As it was his first time in the chair, he didn’t try to go up all the steps and cross the bridge, but the experience of seeing what it could do, has led to the launch of the fundraising appeal.

Mike recently launched a YouTube channel to share his experiences with multiple sclerosis
