Cwmbran dog donates blood for the sixth time

A Cwmbran dog has made his sixth donation to the Pet Blood Bank UK.

Peanut, from Ty Canol, donated at a session in Cardiff. The organisation supplies blood to vets all over the UK.

The charity said: “We’re just like the human blood service, but for pets! We run donation sessions across the country where you can bring your dog to give blood and help save the lives of other dogs.

“The blood is taken to our processing centre in Loughborough where it is separated into different products. It is then stored and sent out to vets when they need it for an unwell dog. We operate 24 hours a day, seven days a week to ensure blood is always available.”

To be able to donate your dog must be:

  • Fit and healthy
  • Between one and eight years old
  • Weigh more than 25kg
  • Have a good temperament
  • Have never travelled outside of the UK and Ireland
  • Vaccinated or have an annual titre test after the first year booster*
  • Not on any medication

Do you have a cat?

You can register your interest with Pet Blood Bank UK if you have a cat as they want to expand their service.
