Children’s book inspires Cwmbran five-year-old to walk 22 miles for the Limbless Association

A bedtime story has inspired a five-year-old Cwmbran girl to walk 22 miles in laps around the Boating Lake for charity.

Evie Annetts, from Old Cwmbran, wanted to do something after reading  What Happened To You? by James Catchpole and Karen George. Waterstones say its ‘the first ever picture book addressing how a disabled child might want to be spoken to. A ground-breaking, funny story that helps children understand what it might feel like to be seen as different. ‘A revolutionary book on disability.’

Dan, her dad, said: “So what started as a bedtime story turned into our first GoFundMe challenge. Whilst we were reading a story of a child who sadly lost their lower limbs, Evie instantly thought let’s walk around the Boating Lake (1.1 miles) to raise money for someone who has experienced or is experiencing the same thing. We have agreed to do 20 laps of the lake. Any donations however big or small will be greatly appreciated.”

The family plan to do the challenge in stages and the first laps will be completed tomorrow- Sunday 16 January 2022.
