Cwmbran residents are being invited to free public screenings of The People’s Emergency Briefing at Llanyrafon Methodist Church this month.
The 50‑minute film will be shown on Saturday 15 August and Friday 21 August, both at 5pm in Llanyrafon Methodist Church. Tickets are free, but organisers are encouraging people to book in advance.
The film is based on last November’s National Emergency Briefing at Westminster Central Hall, where more than 1,200 MPs, peers and leaders from business, culture, faith, sport and the media gathered to hear experts outline the UK’s exposure to climate and nature risks.
The event was introduced by Chris Packham CBE and has now been adapted into a 50-minute public film, The People’s Emergency Briefing, which launched nationwide on 7 April and is now being screened in communities across the UK.
The film brings together leading scientists to explain the challenges ahead and invites viewers to consider what these issues may mean locally.

South Wales is already experiencing climate pressures, from flooding in the Afon Lwyd valley to pressures on food systems, biodiversity and recent wildfires on common land.
Organisers say the screening is a chance for Cwmbran and Torfaen residents to look at the evidence and discuss what action could look like here.
A spokesperson for Tasty Not Wasty CIC, the hosts of the screenings, said: “We want to create a friendly space for our community to come together, with our partners, to help look at the evidence in an honest way.
“We hope this will begin actual conversations about what climate change means for Torfaen and what we can do about it. The People’s Emergency Briefing brings the science data and information to our community.”
Meaningful discussion
Lauren Morse, owner of Zero Waste Torfaen, is helping to facilitate the evenings. She said: “We look forward to welcoming all members of our community into the space and hope for some meaningful discussion.”
