A bench has been unveiled at Croesyceiliog Cricket Club in memory of Tom Curran- a former player who passed away from cancer last year.
Family and friends of the 38-year-old dad of three gathered in the shade of the trees by the boundary shortly before a fun match between the club and The TC Squad.
Christie, Tom’s wife, thanked the club for organising the special night. She said: “It really means a lot to us as a family. This evening is about remembering Tom, and I’m grateful for all of you and all of your support that you’ve given us. Tom loved this club and the community that makes it what it is. The club played a big part in his life, and although Tom was never one to enjoy a fuss, I know that he’d be so proud to see everyone here playing this memorial match and unveiling a bench in his name.”
The wording on the inscription on the bench was chosen by their daughters Seren and Ffion and says: “In Loving Memory of Tom ‘Doug’ Curran. Tom woz ere 1987-2005. Thanks for the adventure, now go and have one.”
Christie said Griff, their son, chose the dandelions on the plaque “because he says ‘dandelions give you wishes’ and this is a special memory between Tom and Griff.”
