People affected by cancer are being invited to take part in the first ever ‘5K Your Way’ event at Pontypool Parkrun this Saturday – a new monthly meet‑up offering support, company and the chance to enjoy gentle exercise in the beautiful surroundings of Pontypool Park.
The initiative, which will now run on the last Saturday of every month, encourages cancer patients, survivors, their families, carers and anyone working in cancer services to walk, jog, run, cheer or volunteer in a friendly, no‑pressure environment.
‘5K Your Way, Move Against Cancer’ is a national community programme delivered by the MOVE Against Cancer Charity, designed to help people living with and beyond cancer experience the physical and emotional benefits of movement, fresh air and being part of a supportive group.
The local volunteers will be launching the Pontypool group at 8.45am this Saturday (27th), ready for the 9am Parkrun start. Participants are invited to meet the 5K Your Way Ambassadors- who will be wearing blue t-shirts- near the gates to the rugby pitch, close to Pontypool Leisure Centre
Organisers say the event is open to all abilities, and there is no expectation to complete the full 5km
Parkrun itself is free, and anyone who wants to register can do so on the Parkrun website.
More information about the national initiative can be found on the MOVE Against Cancer website or through the group’s Facebook page.
