Twenty staff from The Grange University Hospital in Cwmbran completed the Abergavenny Three Peaks Challenge to raise money for Velindre Cancer Centre.

The team all work in the hospital’s interventional radiology (IR) department.

They set off at 7am on Saturday 7 June in the rain, tackling the Blorenge first before taking on the Sugarloaf and finally the Skirrid.

Mermaid Medical, who manufacture and supply devices used in IR, sponsored and supported the team with snacks and drinks.

Consultant radiologist Kath Moore, who organised this year’s event, said: “A brilliant effort from everyone in pretty adverse conditions. We didn’t lose anyone in the fog and no one had to be airlifted off the top – result!

“It certainly was a challenge and was great to do something local.

“Thank you again Stuart Green, Marsha, Jas and Max [all from Mermaid Medical] for the support, waiting around, snacks and dinner – especially the chocolate Brazils.”

Team member Emily Hedley said: “We treat lots of cancer patients through minimally invasive procedures. These challenges are a great way to raise much‑needed funds to support patients affected by cancer, whilst having fun together as a team.”

You can still sponsor the team and make a donation using their JustGiving page.
