A charity netball tournament in memory of a Torfaen teenager who died after catching meningitis at university raised £1,195 for the Meningitis Now charity.

Megan Draper, 18, from Pontypool, played for Cwmbran Youth and Torfaen Netball Club. The Bournemouth University student passed away last October.

The event at Rougemont School saw players from under eights through to seniors play matches throughout the day.

Earlier this year, Megan’s parents Helen and Lee Draper spoke to the media about their calls for the government to start a vaccine catch-up campaign. Megan received the Meningitis ACWY vaccine when she was in school- but her parents were not aware of the Meningitis B strain vaccination that has been available for babies on the NHS since 2015.

They raised concerns about the misunderstanding surrounding the vaccine and want the Meningitis B vaccine to be more available.
