Representatives from churches across Cwmbran came yesterday today and held a Good Friday service in the town centre.
It started at 10.50am with actors taking part in a section of the Passion Play, a traditional, theatrical representation of the story of the last days of Jesus’ life. The man playing Jesus carried a large cross from around the corner by Iceland to the corner area between One Below and Sport Direct in Monmouth Walk.
As he walked, he was shouted at by five men dressed as Roman soldiers as his followers cried.
The event was followed by a service. Readings were made by Diane Brain, Reverend Karen Powell, Lucy Williams and Pastor Tony Gillard- each representing a different church in Cwmbran.
The Salvation Army played hymns including ‘The Servant King” and “Bind Us Together.”
