The Youth Award was given to Amelia Ashton at Cwmbran Community Council’s Community Awards evening.

This was read out as she was presented with her award in the Parkway Hotel on Friday 6 March.

“Amelia is supportive, friendly, and has a personality that lights up every room she walks into. As a young carer, she already carries significant responsibility, yet she continues to show up for others with warmth, empathy and strength. Her peers naturally gravitate towards her because she makes people feel heard, valued and understood.

“Representing Cwmbran High School, Amelia delivered an outstanding presentation advocating for young carers. She didn’t just speak for herself, she spoke on behalf of young carers across Torfaen, raising awareness of their challenges and championing the support they deserve.

“What makes this even more remarkable is that she did so while facing and challenging her own anxieties. That courage to stand up, speak out, and use her voice for others is truly inspiring.

“Amelia deserves recognition not only for the care and support she provides in her own life, but for going above and beyond her responsibilities to raise the profile of young carers and make sure they are seen, heard and valued.

“She is an incredible role model, and our community is better because of her compassion, bravery and commitment to others. Please join me in congratulating this year’s Youth Award recipient…Amelia.
