A weekly walking club in Cwmbran for former rugby players is still going strong five years after it started.
It was started by John ‘the dentist’ Evans and former Pontypool RFC, Wales and British Lion prop Graham Price. The pair have been friends since the 1970s and Graham was one of John’s patients at his dental practice in Pontypool.
Each Thursday at 10am they and others meet outside Goode’s Gym.
“I wasn’t afraid of much, but I was frightened s**tless of him.” Graham Price played every test match over three tours with the British Lions. During a Wales tour to Australia, his jaw was broken from a punch.
He chats in this video with John Evans, his former dentist, who had a practice in the town.
The long-time friends share some great stories and talk about how “uplifting” it is to socialise and laugh together.
Every Christmas, they organise a breakfast at Goode’s Gym where dozens of players come together. This year’s event and this interview took place on Thursday 18 December 2025
