Friends and family of Tom Curran gathered at Croesyceiliog Cricket and Rugby Club

Hundreds of friends and family of Tom Curran gathered at Croesyceiliog Cricket and Rugby Club on Wednesday 13 August 2025 to remember him.

The 38-year-old dad-of-three passed away with cancer on Friday 8 August. In this emotional video, Christie talks about her late husband and how proud she is of their children and the incredible amount of money they’ve already raised for St David’s Hospice Care, whose staff supported Tom and his family.

You can sponsor the family through their JustGiving page here.

Alan Hiatt is chair of Croesyceiliog Rugby Club and joint-chair of the rugby and cricket club. I met him after he kindly allowed me onto the balcony at the clubhouse on The Highway to film the large crowd who had gathered on the cricket field to chat and share memories of Tom Curran.

Alan said: “I’ve known Tom for a long time. Tom started with our mini rugby section, going through. I think he got to youth, and then he finished, but he played cricket all the way through.

‘Sadly missed’

“He was a very, very good rugby player and cricketer. His mum and dad are very good supporters of this club. He will be sadly missed.

“He was a very, very loyal family man. He had a very strong social group of friends, and right to the end, they all stuck together.

“Tom was one of those boys who would stand back a little bit, but if it was needed, he was there. He was a very good friend to everybody, sadly missed by everybody in this club.”

Alan said the club is a “tremendous part of the community”, used every day of the week with 13 rugby teams, a male voice choir, “about nine cricket teams”, and 1,000 members enjoying its facilities.
