A former Gurkha who lives in Cwmbran talks about this Saturday’s Wales Gurkha Open Day

The TA Centre in Cwmbran is the venue for the second annual Wales Gurkha Community Open Day on Saturday 9 August.

Narendra Limbu, from Llantarnam, is president of the Wales Gurkha Community. Watch this video of the 55 year-old talk about this weekend’s event and invite everyone along. It runs from 2pm to 6pm.

Highlights include traditional Gurkha knife fighting and dancing. Nepalese food will be on sale and children can enjoy face painting and exploring military vehicles.

Some veterans from World War Two will be attending.

Narendra is one of the approximately 70 Gurkha families who live in the Cwmbran area. His long military career includes serving in the Falklands War and 16 years in The Queen’s Gurkha Engineers. He still serves in the Territorial Army which have two-hour training sessions every Wednesday in the centre on Ty Coch Way.

Narendra’s two sons are following in his footsteps with one of them in the air cadets and the other in the Royal Air Force.

This year’s event is funded by a grant from the Awards for All Big Lottery Fund.
