Women and girls are being encouraged to take part in an ‘Own The Night Run‘ to raise awareness of safety concerns that can prevent them from being active in their communities.

The event is being organised by Pont-y-pwl & District Runners and Torfaen Council’s If You Go I Go project as part a national campaign by Welsh Athletics and orfganised and promoted

Its message is simple: no woman or girl should have to think twice about going for a run, walk or being active because of concerns about their safety.

Organisers say ‘Own The Night‘ is about more than just running. The initiative aims to create a future where women and girls feel safe, supported and empowered to be active wherever and whenever they choose.

Participants can choose between a 3km or 5km route

The event takes place on Sunday 25 October at 5pm, starting from Panteg House in Griffithstown.

Runners are asked to wear bright, reflective clothing and running lights.

Drinks and snacks will be available afterwards.

Organisers said: “Together, we can raise awareness, inspire change and help more women and girls feel confident to get out, get active and own the night.”
