Windrush generation to be honoured at Cwmbran event

An event is being held to celebrate the achievements and contributions of the Windrush generation to Cwmbran and the surrounding areas.

It’s being supported by Cwmbran Community Council and takes place from 3pm on Thursday, November 23 at the Parkway Hotel in Cwmbran.

Cllr Sean Wharton, Upper Cwmbran East Ward, is one of the organisers. He said: “This event is a celebration of the Caribbean communities within, Torfaen and Cwmbran, specifically to celebrate the 75th anniversary of Windrush. It’s going to bring everyone together who came from the Caribbean in the 50s and 60s, embraced the community and worked hard. This occasion is to recognise this and those community members.

“The Parkway Hotel has been extremely supportive. There are going to be some awards, music, food, and a few speeches.”

Cllr Wharton said guests would hear “loads of stories” about members of the Caribbean community and their contribution to Cwmbran and Torfaen.
