A networking group to encourage mums who want to start up a business or network with other like minded entrepreneurs is meeting in Cwmbran.

Emma Evans, from Caerleon, started the Welsh Mums In Business networking group in 2009 as she felt she couldn’t attend the usual breakfast or evening networking meetings with a small baby at home and children in school.

The group gives mums a friendly and informal space to network, providing support and advice to women who, like Emma have small businesses or are looking to become Mumtrepreneurs.

The group’s next meeting is on Monday 22 April at 9.30am at Table Table (The Ashbridge) on Avondale Road in Cwmbran.

Entry costs £5 which includes refreshments.

Emma saw the gap in the market for working mums in the local area who run small start-up businesses from home, looking for support and the chance to network with other like-minded mums. The first meeting was almost four years ago and the group quickly grew.

They meet every six weeks in a venue that is child friendly yet still professional. At most meetings there will be a guest speaker talking about topics like business issues, personal development, IT and social media.

Emma said, “Welsh Mums in Business helps eliminate the feeling of isolation that is a common feeling for stay at home business mums. We have built up a great online community through our Facebook page, promoting and helping one another by linking to helpful events and resources.”

WMIB is open to all women, not just mums who work for themselves. Women who are employed in an organisation and feel this type of networking can help their business interests, are more than welcome. For example business manager at HSBC, Sally Dixon attends and offers banking and financial advice to the members. The group welcomes all women and is proud to have helped members grow and move toward their business goals with simple encouragement and support.

Natalie Salkeld a member who has just set up her own dog walking business said: “Meeting with these lovely ladies has given me the courage to finally start my own business. Emma and the members are enthusiastic, understanding, supportive and a good laugh too! When the WMIB invite comes up I get quite excited at the prospect of meeting up a wonderful group of individuals all pursuing their dream.”
