A man who tried to open the front door of a house in St Dials in the early hours of last Sunday morning raised his middle finger after spotting the householder’s CCTV camera.

The Ring doorbell footage was captured by a householder who lives on Thorncliffe Road. He told Cwmbran Life: “We felt worried and concerned. We have young children who are now asking each day if someone tried to get in again.”

Gwent Police said they were called out to the house at around 8am on Sunday 14 January following a report of suspicious behaviour. They were told that an unknown man approached their house at around 1.30am that morning and tried the door handle.

Chief Inspector Shaun Conway said: “We have received multiple reports like this in the recent weeks and we understand how distressing it can be, our homes should be a place where we feel at ease. Our officers are committed to deal with these offences robustly and two men from Cwmbran were recently arrested and charged with burglary offences relating to different incidents in the area. Work is ongoing to identify the man in this incident and anyone with any information is asked to contact us on 101 or online.

“We encourage residents to keep vigilant, ensuring that they lock their doors and windows, keep their cars secure and make sure any valuable items are not left out on display.”

If you have any information call Gwent Police on 101 or message on social media and quote log number: 20240114- 0077.

Police confirmed that the person in the CCTV is not one of the two men who are appearing in court.
