George, the eight-year-old bear at Cwmbran Parkrun's 400th event on Saturday 20 September 2025

This is George, the eight-year-old bear who danced, cheered, and waved every one of the 424 people at Cwmbran Parkrun last Saturday as they walked, jogged or ran past him

Lucy Watkins, George’s mum, said: “He is here to support the special parkrun, it’s the 400th Cwmbran Parkrun and he loves dressing up, so thought he’d take the opportunity to dress up as a mascot and come and support all the runners.”

The volunteer organisers of the weekly 5km run wanted to get over 400 runners to take part and set a course record on the special day.

‘Why do you love Cwmbran parkrun?’

I asked participants and volunteers at last Saturday’s event the simple question: Why do you love Cwmbran Parkrun? Watch this video to see their answers.

Alison Davis’ 250th parkrun

Congratulations to Alison Davis (right). The Fairwater Runners member took part in her 250th parkrun, making the 400th Cwmbran Parkrun an extra special day! She ran with her sister, Helen Brown (left).

No one is left behind at Cwmbran Parkrun

Whether you choose to walk, jog or run, the last ones over the line are always the tail runners, who are volunteers whose role is to safely do the course behind every one of the participants. This is Win, Ann, and Emma, along with a photo of a visually impaired runner and her guide (and I didn’t get their names, but they were happy to smile for a pic- thank you both
