A Cwmbran micro‑dairy has launched a new Welsh cheese.

Usk Valley Cheese Company, based on Springvale Industrial Estate, has unveiled Blorenge, a soft Brie‑style cheese made using fresh Jersey cow’s milk from Josh’s Jerseys, a family‑run farm in Abergavenny.

Ethan Parry, from Usk Valley Cheese Company, said the aim was to create a cheese that celebrates the best of local produce.

“We wanted to create a cheese that celebrates the quality of local ingredients and the richness of Jersey milk. Blorenge is indulgent and full of character.

“The milk for Blorenge comes directly from Josh’s Jerseys in Abergavenny, several miles away from our micro-dairy in Cwmbran. This close connection ensures the highest quality milk and reinforces the link between our cheese and the Usk Valley it celebrates.”

Blorenge

Blorenge is named after the hill overlooking Abergavenny and the Usk Valley.

The milk comes from Josh Morgan’s herd of pasture‑fed Jersey cows, known for producing milk with naturally high butterfat – the secret behind Blorenge’s deep yellow colour and texture.

Morgan said the farm’s focus on soil health, animal welfare and once‑a‑day milking helps produce “the rich, creamy milk that makes Blorenge so special.”

He added: “Our herd is pasture-fed, grazing outside on grass for most of the year. We operate a closed herd, breeding our own young stock, which keeps generations of cows together throughout their lives.

‘Milking once a day’

“Milking once a day allows the cows to work less, promoting health, longevity, and happiness. The wellbeing of our cows is closely tied to the health of the land they graze on.”

Blorenge is available seasonally, from March to December. It’s the company’s first step into soft cheese production

The new cheese is available from selected farm shops, delis and directly from Usk Valley Cheese Company’s online shop.
