A campaign to encourage people to visit Torfaen and enjoy the many attractions in the area is being launched this weekend in Cwmbran.
Monmouth Square in Cwmbran town centre will be busy from 10am to 4pm on Saturday 11 May with stalls from local businesses connected with local tourism.
People can find out about what’s on offer from a range of businesses such as hotels, restaurants, local attractions, family activities, and retailers.
On Your Doorstep is part of Torfaen Tourism Association’s Visit Torfaen campaign.
The family-friendly event aims to celebrate and promote the vibrant tourism offerings in the Torfaen area.
Tony Wilkes, centre manager at Cwmbran Centre, said: “By working closely with the local authority partnerships, we consulted with local businesses to look at providing a communications model to support local tourism.
“A number of businesses have been formed to represent this sector where national Government funding had ceased, we successfully achieved a moderate funding amount to be used in bringing all business together to share their own platforms within a printed and interactive electronic map.
“This provides a network of communications for local and new visitors that provides key information on Cwmbran and its surrounding areas.”
Louise Jones-Williams, chair of Torfaen Tourism Association and director of Llantarnam Grange in Cwmbran, said: “This project isn’t just about promoting businesses. It’s about boosting community pride and showcasing the diverse range of experiences that Torfaen offers.
“By featuring on the map of Torfaen that we have created, and joining the social media campaign, businesses can harness the collective strength of Visit Torfaen to drive footfall and visibility.”
More events will take place in other areas of Torfaen later this year.
On Your Doorstep is supported by Cwmbran Centre, Blaenavon Town Council, Henllys Community Council, and Croesyceiliog Community Council.
Visit Torfaen has received funding from the UK Government’s ‘Levelling Up’ fund and Torfaen County Borough Council. The fund aims to invest in local infrastructure that has a visible impact on people and their communities and supports economic recovery.
