Torfaen Community and Volunteer Awards- Winners revealed this week!

The Torfaen Community and Volunteer Awards take place on Saturday 2 October 2021 at Pontypool Active Living Centre.

The event recognises the voluntary contributions made by groups, individuals and businesses across the county during the pandemic.

Over 100 nominations were received in ten categories and were assessed by an independent panel of judges.

Some of the categories include Young Volunteer of the Year, Adult Volunteer of the Year and Heart of the Community Award – recognising the work of groups across Torfaen.

Torfaen Voluntary Alliance teamed up Torfaen Council and Aneurin Bevan University Health Board to organise the celebation.

Torfaen Voluntary Alliance’s operational executive officer Aimi Morris said: “For many years we have celebrated the contributions of groups and individuals. However, following on from the past year, we share a vision with partners to highlight what has been achieved through the dedication and fabulous work volunteers have done during the pandemic.

“Volunteering covers all generations”

“From those aged 11 to 82 years really does highlight that volunteering covers all generations and they do it because they just want to help, and not because they want anything in return, is exceptional.

“This awards evening is our way of expressing our thanks by ensuring that it is a true celebration, and for this we thank the local businesses who, without hesitation, provided their sponsorship support as they too shared our vision.”

Councillor Fiona Cross, Torfaen Executive Member for Children, Families and Communities, said: “Volunteering is a vital, valued and truly rewarding experience. The nominees inspire us to be more and give more to our communities and in doing so we help solves some of the challenges we face in modern society from litter, being more active, food poverty and so much more.

“It’s been a real pleasure working with TVA and other partners who have helped bring this vision together and I’m sincerely looking forward to the event.”

The event is sponsored by 22 local businesses.
