Three pupils break sports day records at Croesyceiliog School

A recent story on Cwmbran Life brought memories of sports day glory for many former pupils of Croesyceiliog School.

PE teachers have kept records of track and field records, with some still being held since 1962. The post on Facebook attracted over 70 comments with former pupils spotting their names or those of their former classmates.

The 2023 sports day was held on Friday 7 July and three pupils broke records:

  • Mia Shottle is the new year eight girls shot putt champion after a throw of 8m 70cm, beating the 2016 record by 5cm.
  • Tyler Gibbs is the new 800m year eight boys record holder breaking a 25-year-old record with a time of 2 mins 27.45 secs.
  • Ali Tucker is the new 300m year eight boys record holder with a time of 42.12 secs beating the record set in 2019.

A spokesperson for the school said: “Croesyceiliog School sports day took place in glorious sunshine, with over 500 pupils taking part in a range of athletic events.  There was much excitement about the possibility of records being broken and the students did not disappoint. All students showed amazing resilience and determination and the records tumbled.”
