Children in Cwmbran could be playing in this park if a group of hard-working volunteers have their way. The Friends of Cwmbran Park was set up last year to give children and parents somewhere special to visit. It’s the area next to the bowling green, football pitch and tennis courts off Henllys Way and Wesley Street.

The photo below shows what the site currently looks like.

Over 1,000 people signed a petition supporting the plan. Last month 150 children from Ysgol Gymraeg Cwmbran were asked for their views on what kind of things they would like to play on.

This stunning artist’s impression is the result of what they said.

Later this month the final grant bid will be sent off to the Big Lottery Fund’s People and Places who will decide in 2014 if the group’s work has paid off and they get the cash.

The Friends of Cwmbran Park are working with Torfaen Council who own the land on getting the application together. If you want to volunteer or help out in the campaign please comment on this story or email cwmbranlife (AT) gmail.com
