A choir for people who have been affected by cancer is being set up in Cwmbran. This will be the third Tenovus ‘Sing with Us’ choir in Wales.

It is being launched on Monday 30 April in Richmond Road Baptist Church. The choir will meet every Monday from 6.30pm to 8pm.

The Tenovus Sing for Life choir is a project that started in 2010 to measure the benefits of singing for cancer patients and their families. The choir has won awards, sung at major venues, and improved the lives of members who are often dealing with difficult issues and treatment. Tenovus received £1m from The Big Lottery AdvantAGE scheme to set up a further 15 choirs across Wales over the next three years.

Nathan Bishop, Tenovus Sing with Us manager, said: “The choirs are for anyone who has been affected by cancer, be it as a patient, relative, friend or carer, to come together in a fun, positive and energetic way. It’s not about how good a singer you are because every voice counts.”

Sing and Inspire will help Tenovus set up the choirs, with the support of Connie Fisher, the Patron for the project.

Connie said: “I am incredibly proud to become the patron of the project and will try to come along to as many rehearsals as my schedule allows me.”
