A swan at Cwmbran Boating Lake has been euthanised after being found with two ball bearings lodged in its neck.
The bird also had an open wound, with wildlife rescuers believing the injuries were caused deliberately- possibly by a catapult.
Cwmbran Life originally reported it was a “suspected dog attack” after eyewitnesses raised concerns before ves
Ros Eaton, from the volunteer-run Swan Rescue South Wales (SWSW), said they received a call at around 8.30am this morning. Peter Martin, from (SWSW), was at the site by 9am.
The swan was in the paddle boat pond. Peter contacted Steve Hedley from Black Crow Paddleboarding for assistance, and he also attended.

The injured swan was captured in the play park and taken to a vet. An X-ray found two 8mm ball bearings in its neck.
Ros told Cwmbran Life the vet told them the swan’s jaw had been “shattered,” leaving it unable to eat even if it recovered.
Ros was upset as she said: “There was nothing you could do. I’m afraid we had to say goodbye to her.”
