This was a special night in Fairwater Shops. Poets and rappers came together to entertain passers-by and a crowd who turned up for a few hours of free fun.

Read this earlier blog about why former Cwmbran resident Mark organised the event.

Watch this YouTube clip below of some of the best lyrics of the night 🙂 It starts with Dorian Grey asking the crowd to hold up an item from their pockets. He then went around the circle freestyling lyrics on these unusual items.

This was followed by Jamey P, Rufus Mufasa and Mar Kel.

Locals of all ages stopped to watch, clap and share their chips with each other. When was the last time you shared chips with a stranger?

These events bring strangers together and show you can have a lot of (free) harmless fun just by hanging around. Creative lyrics that tell stories and make you think, laugh or cry show the power of words.

I hope some of the people who were there have picked up a pad and pencil in the last week. Maybe they will tell their stories at the next Words on the Street.
