Players from the under-ten team at Pontnewydd FC say the kind donations they received for their walk up Pen y Fan will help them “massively” this coming football season.”
A statement from the team after their walk up the highest peak in south Wales said: “Thank you to everyone who has contributed to our GoFundMe page. The contributions will help massively over the next 12 months with booking pitches when our grass pitches are unplayable.
“The response from the community has been incredible and without local support grassroots wouldn’t survive.”
And in a nice extra touch, the team has also gained the support of Pontnewydd Fish Bar. The man of the match each week gets to pick up a free sausage and chips meal as a treat.
